ABOUT ME
I came into this world during a hard time in my life which was also a sacred and beautiful time in my life - a Rites of Passage as I became a Mother. The dance floor in Queenstown where Sarsha birthed Somatic Dance, was my savior.
It was a home and a place where I could make sense of all the changes I was experiencing. I felt I could express this on the dancefloor and I felt I had come home to a soul family who got it! I was so inspired that I began to hold dance spaces for parents and children and a highlight was holding a family ecstatic dance at a festival in the mountains of Queenstown.
I continued to dance my way through the early mothering years and welcomed another daughter into the world. I am now a Mother to two strong, beautiful girls. With my second, I experienced post natal depression. It was a scary time. Therefore, dance and conscious dance spaces became even more important to me. My newly formed family often joined in! We moved to the North Islands and I continued to offer guided dance spaces with a 'wave' of rhythms specifically for women and friends of mine to come and let loose! We moved again and I found a community in the Far North of passionate dancers being run by a fellow dance brother who was about to embark on the training with his beautiful partner and they wanted to bring me into facilitating the dance floor they had begun. I was so honored!
Not too long after I too finally made it to Level 1 training and from there my journey deepened immensely. Being trauma informed and holding wisdom around the nervous system was a real attraction to me. Ritual, eco-somatics, archetypes and connecting with embodiment has been deeply healing for me. I have struggled with dissociation from my body all of my life. I have intellectualized my experiences of trauma in therapy and struggled to reach the pain in my body.
It began to unravel in training and I felt held and supported by experts. I have completed a degree in Psychology and post grad certifications and I presently am completing a counseling degree, somatic dance has intertwined with my passion for healing, growth and recovery from trauma. I grew up with musician parents and the component of DJing along with facilitation resonated with me like never before in my life. It was like everything fell into place.
Alchemy, my DJ self was born in Level 1 and Georgia Leigh Alchemy began to grow. I now hold conscious dance spaces in the Far North of New Zealand, weaving together ritual, tea ceremony, women's somatic dance circles and silent discos in Nature for the purpose of coming together to grow, heal, connect and dance it ALL. I am honored to do this work and have recently completed Level 3 where I reconnected with a desire to work with plants.
I believe in a world where music, movement and dance are respected as deeply healing modalities with the power to change the world. I am also passionate about working with eco-somatics, remembering and honoring our innate connection to nature, the cosomos and the elements that create life. Through this training and this work I feel I have healed and continue to heal on many levels, as a women, as a lover of Nature and the cycles she holds, as a partner, a daughter and as a Mother.
I am so lit up by co-creating dance spaces where bodies are taken on a journey into themselves and with one another, I adore using soundscape and embodiment along with ritual aspects and ancient remembering to help people to remember their own inner wisdom and power.
