ABOUT ME
I began my journey with dance and embodiment at the age of five, first encountering ballet and immediately knowing that movement was my calling. This early connection evolved through years of ballet and jazz, eventually leading me to train at UNITEC in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, where I graduated with a Bachelor of Performing Arts, majoring in contemporary dance.
I went on to work professionally as a contemporary dancer for over two decades, collaborating with independent choreographers and performing with Touch Compass, Aotearoa’s leading mixed-ability dance company. This experience deeply shaped my understanding of inclusivity, expanding my capacity to work with diverse bodies and to honour the expressive power inherent in every human form.
In 2010, I completed a Master’s degree in Dance at the University of Auckland, integrating academic inquiry with creative practice. Throughout this time, improvisation and somatic awareness became central to my work, opening pathways into the infinite possibilities of the sensing, moving body.
Alongside my dance career, I trained and worked as a yoga teacher for eight years, refining my ability to guide embodiment through clarity, precision, and accessibility across a wide range of bodies, abilities, and life stages. I was also deeply immersed in contact improvisation and the 5Rhythms community, further anchoring my connection to embodied and expressive movement practices.
Discovering Sarsha’s embodied ecstatic dance was a pivotal moment. After completing Level 1 training, I felt an immediate resonance and devoted myself fully to the path of somatic facilitation. Since then, I have accumulated over 500 hours assisting and co-holding space across Level 1, 2, and 3 trainings in both New Zealand and Bali.
What are your specialties?
My passion lies in the heart of somatic practice - in the living, felt experience of the body in motion - and extends into eco somatics, where I honour our deep, reciprocal relationship with the natural world. I am devoted to supporting students in cultivating embodied awareness, authentic expression, and confidence in their unique voice as facilitators.
All of my work is grounded in a trauma-informed approach and held within a carefully attuned, energetically aware container that supports safety, integration, and transformation.
Music is a central thread in my facilitation. As a DJ, I craft immersive sound journeys that deepen the embodied experience, inviting dancers into states that are expansive, transformative, and deeply connected.
Where do you teach in?
I am delighted to be part of the Aotearoa New Zealand Level 1 facilitation team in 2026, and to support the continued unfolding and global expansion of Somatic Dance International.
